I got Zodi to read this blog. he started to laugh at all the matrix-cyberspace-etc stuff... we both agreed i need more sleep and less time at work... we also agreed this is not "only" matrix-cyberspace-etc stuff, but also (and there is where i aim) INDUSTRY STANDARDS.
btw, to some extent, telnet is the closest thing to my concept of "interface"... have a look at ztalker.netpower.no port 3278, since (not counting it has been "neutered" and doesnt allow access to resources such as hd or ram) it's the simplest yet most "conceptually accurate" one i know.

conclusion: i havent found anybody seemingly developing it. perhaps this is one of "negroponte's switches"... rather than having us humans "inmersed" in a virtual reality, we'll tend to have machines that "project themselves" into our world ("real virtuality"? ;-) )
Let's face it. a "johny mnemonic-like" interface looks nice, but we are heading towards more and more "microsoft internet explorer"(TM) interfaces
